We are proud to share a recent achievement by Rohit Pentewar, whose proactive approach to cybersecurity helped uncover and resolve a critical security gap during one of our industrial automation projects.
Identifying the Risk
While working on a large scale automation initiative, Rohit identified a vulnerability that could have introduced serious security and compliance risks. Newly created users were able to log in using default or temporary credentials without being required to update them.
This meant accounts could remain active with insecure passwords, an issue that weakens system security and creates compliance concerns in regulated environments.
A Thoughtful, Secure Solution
Rather than applying a one off fix, Rohit designed a robust and scalable solution: a Credential Reset module built specifically for Ignition based systems.
The module enforces strong access control by:
- Requiring users to change their password on first login
- Restricting system access until credentials are updated
- Eliminating the continued use of default or temporary passwords
- Enhancing overall system security and user accountability
This approach ensures that every user begins with secure, personalized credentials while closing a common security gap in many control systems.
Built for Scale and Reuse
Taking the solution a step further, Rohit engineered the module as a reusable and configurable component. This allows it to be easily deployed across multiple Ignition projects with minimal effort, saving time while maintaining consistent security standards.
After successful validation, the solution was published on the Ignition Exchange, making it available to the global Ignition community.

The Credential Reset module aligns with key security and access control principles outlined in 21 CFR Part 11, making it especially valuable for organizations operating in regulated industries such as:
